LiveAble was founded by Melissa Smith to help her clients stay comfortably and safely in their houses. As a licensed occupational therapist, contractor, and certified aging in place specialist with more than 25 years of experience, Melissa uses compassionate expertise to bring peace of mind to families struggling with their loved one’s daily challenges. Melissa’s mission is to help her clients maintain their independence and ease the emotional and financial burdens brought on by aging or disability.

Degree in Occupational Therapy
Degree in Occupational Therapy. I have been a licensed OT since 2000, making 2025 my 25th anniversary. I have worked in all different setting including: inpatient rehabilitation, acute care, home health, and skilled nursing facility.
2009
LiveAble LLC
Founded LiveAble and began additional trainings in the specific and niche area of Home Modifications.
2009
Executive Certificate in Home Modifications (ECHM)
Engaged in intensive, focused training how to modify homes to suit individuals, including learning about funding sources, research, and products. Obtained the ECHM from USC - School of Gerontology.
2010
Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS I & II)
Certified as CAPS I & II through training in home modifications through the National Home Builders Association (NHBA).
2016
Residential Contractors License- Oregon CCB
Became a licensed residential contractor #212908 in Oregon.
2017-2018
Supplemental coursework - Portland Community College
Took supplemental coursework to add to my knowledge in architecture, building, interior design, and Auto-CAD.
2020
Certified Home Assessment and Modification Professional (CHAMP)
Obtained focused training in modification of homes for injured workers within the workers' compensation system.
